Mock Exam

Task 1-
I agree because readers only want to know about information they are interested in.
The internet is a reliable source of information as it is always updated with new information and releases. Readers enjoy using the internet to read about their favourite musicians because they can specifically ask to read about one singer and all the information comes up instead of having to look though magazine and it only including a few pictures and a little bit on information. I also agree that readers enjoy interacting because it is easy, you type what you want to say and then you send it, whereas with the magazines you would have to cut it out, fill it in and post it. (7/15)
Task 2-
I agree in some ways, magazines like Q have a male reader percentage of 75. Therefore it is clearly a male magazine, you can tell this because they usually use a male on the front that is covered up and has a serious look on his face which sets the mood of the cover. Also they may use dark colours and a bold font, these qualities do not appeal to females.
On the other hand magazines like Top of the Pops are clearly aimed at females with only a 15% male readership. Some of the ways TOTP make this clear is by using popular boy bands or female singers that teenage girls are interested in, swirly fonts, pink or girly coloured writing and they tend to use words like 'oh boy' and 'omg' which appeal to girls and catch their attention.
Lastly magazines like Kerrang have a 55% male readership which is almost half and half. Kerrang sometimes use girls on the front like Cheryl Cole and they will be wearing red lipstick and maybe have their cleavage showing which attracts a male audience, yet they also do it the other way round with a man like Channing Tatum on the front with his abs showing. Clearly they are trying attracting a female audience when they do this. Kerrang is a very diverse magazine that never has the same idea. (10/15)
Task 3-
AN ENGAGING TITLE-
The title 'Boom' catches the audience’s attention because it is short, sharpie and a sound. It should take up half of the length of the top of the page as it is only a short word, it will be in a bold black font to keep it plain yet make it stand out. A title should be big yet not take the emphasis away from anything else on the page that may be more important.
HOUSE STYLE-
As it will be aimed at females and males the house style will be red and black. Black background will keep the magazine male and plain but the red will be used for the reader to interpret. Red could mean dangerous, love, sexy and other things for the reader to decide for themselves.
REGULAR FEATURES-
The main features will be horoscopes, ringtones of the top singers, and interviews with top celebs every week and other questionnaires celebs have done. These will be important in the magazine because these are the things that are regular and keep the readers interested every week. They are also useful because they fill the page and give the reader extra things to think about.
TARGET AUDIENCE-
My target audience are both men and women aged 18-30's. I think my magazine will appeal to them because it will have inside therefore even if one of them is manlier they will appeal to women as well as men. Also on the side of the cover there will be similar artists to the ones in the magazine. (10/15)

MOCK magazine improvment task 3

Task 3

Engaging Title
The title ‘BOOM’ will catch the audience’s attention with its use of onomatopoeia. ‘BOOM’ catches the audience’s attention because it is in used block capitals and bold writing to make it stand out. It is a short and snappy title, this is effective because it’s easy to remember and connects into the music theme of the magazine.
House Style
The black and white theme makes the page stand out more and gives the magazine its own identity. Also the black and white theme gives the magazine a mysterious look when leaves the front cover open; so that the readers can make there own decisions on what the magazine is like and it also leaves emptiness for the reader to have a different opinion as everyone else.
Regular Features
The regular features are a main part of the magazine because these are the things that are consistent in the magazine every week. For example;
-Horoscopes
-Celebrity’s life story
-Phone Ringtones
These are important because it is only little things that are on the side of a page which make the page more crowded and also make the page look like there is more information on it. Although you cannot use too many of these otherwise the reader will get distracted from the main story on the page.
Target Audience
It will appeal mainly to female teens between the ages of 11 and 16 because it uses a famous boy band on the front which females with be interested in and not many men will be. Although it will also apply to older females aged 16-24 as it has fashion tips and dating websites. These websites and the horoscopes will engage the reader and make the magazine more entertaining and enjoyable.

Music Magazine

Why do music fans prefer music magazines to other sources?

In my opinion I prefer to read information from the internet instead of a magazine because it’s a quick and easy way of finding information and it is also free. Also on the sides on the webpage it usually tells you about other websites you may be interested in and other songs/artists.
Other music fans may disagree with me for many reason for example, people may like to collect magazines and make sure they have every one of them so that they know they haven’t missed any of the gossip and information about their favourite bands and artists.
Another reason people may prefer to read magazines is because the reader can look back over and read it again whenever they want, and the information will never change. However on the internet the information can always change and you don’t know whether you have already read the information or whether it has been updated, also when they put the next week or month’s edition up you will no longer be able to see the previous weeks.
A further reason is that a computer or laptop is very unreliable for many reasons, for example; the internet may stop working, your laptop may have to go into repair, and the internet may not allow the webpage. Therefore it  is much easier for people to buy it from a local shop because they are almost 99% guaranteed to also be open at opening times, also the magazine will always be published on time so the customers are always guaranteed to be able to purchase the magazine.
Another reason is that not all customers have the internet and online resources, therefore they may purchase the information as a magazine because overall it is cheaper than paying for internet; one of the most popular magazines is Rolling Stones and it costs about 5 pounds. Also you can order the magazines; therefore it is already paid for and comes straight to your door every week/month so there is no responsibility to check the website or anything.
Finally, the customers may prefer to read a magazine instead of look on the internet because the internet can be confusing as there are lots of different tabs and pieces of writing all over the page and has a lot of irrelevant information that may be easier to just read it off of a page which is no hassle.

Review 3 -Rihanna

REVIEW 3
RIHANNA-DIAMONDS
‘Diamonds’ is Rihanna’s first single from her upcoming seventh album. After Rihanna’s recent songs, for example ‘suck my cockiness’ and ‘Talk that Talk’, it’s a bit tasteless. Lyrically and melodically it sounds more like something Kelly Clarkson would sing as Rihanna is not known for her uplifting proclamations, she normally sings about getting people into her bed, not quite ‘diamonds in the sky’. I think she done this on purpose to give the audience a shock and bring a bit of difference to her music. ‘Diamonds’ is also not a dance song; it has a slow tempo meaningful tempo. It is a song about realizing your beauty doesn’t need a pulse-pounding rhythm. The hook line ‘shine bright like a diamond’ has an 80’s backbeat that becomes more and more addictive every time you listen to it. It’s not a favorite for me, but it has a catchy beat and will probably stay in the top ten for a few weeks.

REVIEW 2
Mean Girls
A lot of movies nowadays get there inspiration from the bitchiness of school girls since Heathers defined the genre fifteen years ago. Mean Girls was written by Daniel Waters and based on his sisters high school experience, the family connection has now extended to Waters younger brother Mark who is the director of the latest glimpse into the Machiavellian world of teenage girls. Mean Girls takes a broader approach, it has a playful, irreverent edge rather than the cute feel that is often adopted. Mean Girls is the second time that Mark Waters and Lindsay Lohan have worked together following their collaboration on the successful freaky Friday. Although Mean Girls was made with much wit and whimsy, making it an enjoyable distraction. Mean Girls received generally positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, grossing $384,042,871 worldwide. It has also been praised as one of Lindsay Lohans break out film roles.

REVIEW
Taylor Swift-We are never getting back together SINGLE
Normally Swift focuses on a ‘country’ style of music, therefore this single differences from the others. This is more of a pop song which would appeal to a wider variety of audiences. In the video Taylor Swift is with a group of different men playing instruments and they are each dressed up in different animal’s costumes. I think that this illustrates it is more of a ‘jokey’ video and isn’t meant for people to take it to heart. As obvious it is directed at Swifts ex Jake Gyllenhaal as the name of the song is ‘we are never getting back together’ and throughout the video Swift makes that very clear. The song is very catchy and brings out a funnier and more relaxed side of Swift. The song was an instant commercial success, topping the iTunes chart all over the worlds becoming the fastest selling digital single and biggest digital sales week ever for a song by a woman in history with 623,000 copies.
