Review 3 -Rihanna

REVIEW 3
RIHANNA-DIAMONDS
‘Diamonds’ is Rihanna’s first single from her upcoming seventh album. After Rihanna’s recent songs, for example ‘suck my cockiness’ and ‘Talk that Talk’, it’s a bit tasteless. Lyrically and melodically it sounds more like something Kelly Clarkson would sing as Rihanna is not known for her uplifting proclamations, she normally sings about getting people into her bed, not quite ‘diamonds in the sky’. I think she done this on purpose to give the audience a shock and bring a bit of difference to her music. ‘Diamonds’ is also not a dance song; it has a slow tempo meaningful tempo. It is a song about realizing your beauty doesn’t need a pulse-pounding rhythm. The hook line ‘shine bright like a diamond’ has an 80’s backbeat that becomes more and more addictive every time you listen to it. It’s not a favorite for me, but it has a catchy beat and will probably stay in the top ten for a few weeks.

Mean Girls
A lot of movies nowadays get there inspiration from the bitchiness of school girls since Heathers defined the genre fifteen years ago. Mean Girls was written by Daniel Waters and based on his sisters high school experience, the family connection has now extended to Waters younger brother Mark who is the director of the latest glimpse into the Machiavellian world of teenage girls. Mean Girls takes a broader approach, it has a playful, irreverent edge rather than the cute feel that is often adopted. Mean Girls is the second time that Mark Waters and Lindsay Lohan have worked together following their collaboration on the successful freaky Friday. Although Mean Girls was made with much wit and whimsy, making it an enjoyable distraction. Mean Girls received generally positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, grossing $384,042,871 worldwide. It has also been praised as one of Lindsay Lohans break out film roles.

Taylor Swift-We are never getting back together SINGLE
Normally Swift focuses on a ‘country’ style of music, therefore this single differences from the others. This is more of a pop song which would appeal to a wider variety of audiences. In the video Taylor Swift is with a group of different men playing instruments and they are each dressed up in different animal’s costumes. I think that this illustrates it is more of a ‘jokey’ video and isn’t meant for people to take it to heart. As obvious it is directed at Swifts ex Jake Gyllenhaal as the name of the song is ‘we are never getting back together’ and throughout the video Swift makes that very clear. The song is very catchy and brings out a funnier and more relaxed side of Swift. The song was an instant commercial success, topping the iTunes chart all over the worlds becoming the fastest selling digital single and biggest digital sales week ever for a song by a woman in history with 623,000 copies.
